Street racers in London are causing noise disruptions equivalent to a concert

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have introduced noise cameras to tackle the issue of antisocial supercar drivers illegally using Knightsbridge streets as ‘race tracks’ after receiving a dozen complaints about streets becoming a "magnet for Lamborghinis and Ferraris".

The cameras record offending vehicles exceeding a 74-decibel noise threshold and, in its first eleven days since being implemented, they have been activated more than 130 times in according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

So far, the loudest noise recorded was 104 decibels, which is the equivalent to a helicopter flying close by. Worse still, local authorities reported that decibel levels have previously reached 126 decibels - equivalent to the noise level of a concert.

Kensington's lead member for transport Johnny Thalassites said, "Residents have had enough of drivers using our streets as a racetrack.

"Supercars look good and most drivers are considerate but when they they're not, it is disruptive and irritating for people living and working in the area."

Offenders could face fines of £100 and £2,500 after an initial warning and persistent offenders may even have their vehicle seized.
