How to Survive Storm Season in your Minibus

It is truly storm season with people’s journeys being affected throughout the UK. Storm Ciara alone brought as much as 184mm of rain and gusts of wind reaching up to 97 MPH on our roads, so how do you best stay safe on your minibus journeys?

A safe journey always begins with good preparation. This means checking everything is working and in good condition on your minibus from wipers to lights as well as checking the tread depth of your tyres. Planning your route should also be part of your checklist. Using apps, reading local news bulletins on flooding and road closures will reduce the risk of running into one.

Once you’ve finished your preparation it’s time to set off on your journey. Obviously, in torrential rain you need to be driving at a slower speed because this will give you more time to react to dangers on the road. Your vision will be obscured by the rain and the spray from other vehicles. Use dipped headlights, so you don’t add to other driver’s sight problems. Equally don’t use rear fog lights as these will not only dazzle the driver behind you but also mask your brake lights. Finally, try to keep your air conditioning on to stop your windows from misting up. Clear vision is key for preventing accidents.
