New pothole repair device could help to solve ‘Pothole Pandemic’

The British construction firm, JCB, has launched a new product called the Pothole Pro which can reduce repair time from hours to minutes, and claims to cost half the price.

The Pothole Pro has three attachments which are used to cut, crop and clean. Apparently, no other equipment is required to repair a pothole, and the repairers will only need to add tar.

Councils in Stoke-on-Trent and Coventry City have already used the product and praised its effectiveness.

In this YouTube video, you can see a comparison between traditional pothole repair and the Pothole Pro. The video was taken in Stoke, where the product was first trialled in 2021 and in just four months repaired the number of potholes which would usually take three years to repair.

It is hoped that this tool could help to bring the UK out of an ongoing ‘Pothole Pandemic’.

Department for Transport (DfT) data released in November 2022 found that there has been no improvement to road surface conditions over the last two years, and that a third of all local roads in England (according to data from 109 local authorities) require ‘urgent maintenance and repair’.
