Schools to receive £500million from DfE to help cope with the rising cost of energy

The Department for Education has announced that it will provide support to schools and colleges in England to help them cope with the rising cost of energy.

A £500million investment will be provided for energy efficiency upgrades to increase ‘winter resilience’ this winter and in future years.

According to estimations, this investment will be divided as follows:

  • Primary schools will each receive approximately £16,000
  • Secondary schools will each receive approximately £42,000
  • Further education college groups will each receive approximately £290,000.

This builds on the current Energy Relief Scheme which is in place to support schools and colleges until spring this year, and is in addition to the committed £2billion in funding to be provided from April this year to support mainstream schools and high needs funding.
